Welcome to our Mountain

the ultimate experience of this remote location is that of peace, tranquility and retreat

We strove to create accommodation that might provide a sanctuary against the elements, but also a platform from which you can experience this incredible landscape.

You have travelled far and wide. Maybe you have just arrived in Namibia or you are reaching the end of your trip, but no trip to Namibia is complete without experiencing the awe-inspiring and few-and-far-between mountain views at Namib Desert Edge. With vistas ranging from desert dunes in the far distance to the rolling hills surrounding the Gaub river and the omni-present and iconic Gamsberg, the ultimate experience of this remote location is that of peace, tranquility and retreat.

Built in a camp called “Blou Hemel” (Blue Heaven) on Farm Alberta, Namib Desert Edge shares the skies with Martial Eagles and the land with Klipspringers and Hartmanns Mountain Zebra. En route to your destination, while driving through a working farm, you might encounter Oryx, Springbok, Black Gnu, Red Hartebees, Eland and Impala, and possibly catch a glimpse of a couple of Giraffe.

Landscapes include sandy valleys, rocky outcrops that look like they came from a movie set, and a variety of incredibly photogenic trees; they will surely attract many a photoshoot! These trees include the Shepherds Tree and the Camelthorn. In the rainy season, the hills are sprinkled with delicate purple and yellow flowers.

It is all about nature at Namib Desert Edge. The land is arid and rocky and is exposed to everything nature throws at it: sun, wind and sometimes a bit of rain, but the views never cease to take our breath away. We strived to create accommodation that might provide a sanctuary against the elements, but also a platform from which you can experience this incredible landscape.

Sunsets provide hours of delight but is only a prelude to the magnificence of the clear night skies where you feel as if you can virtually touch the stars. You will be forever enamoured if you are lucky enough to see the valleys basked in the light of the full moon.

Chalets & Activities

Simple, yet comfortable furnishings in canvas- and wood-constructed chalets do not detract from the all-prevailing vistas. The chalets were aptly named after the five well-known mountain passes of central Namibia bordering the Namib Desert. They are Remhoogte, Spreetshoogte, Gamsberg, Ushoogte and Bosua. We truly hope, that as nature lovers, you will appreciate the efforts made to limit the impact on both the landscape and nature itself. Immerse yourself further in this location by taking a couple of hours to walk the Zebra hiking trail that was set out mostly along existing Zebra trails or enquire about activities offered by Farm Alberta.
